THE WORK & THE FINISH
How does Level 5 differ from Level 4?
A Level 5 drywall finish adds a thin skim coat across the entire gypsum-panel surface after Level 4 joint and fastener treatment. It is followed by the specified primer and decoration. The full-surface treatment reduces joint-to-panel differences; the intended light and paint still affect the appearance.
When is a Level 5 finish worth considering?
Strong light traveling across a surface, deeper colors and non-flat paint can reveal variation. Review a sample with the intended lighting, primer and paint before choosing the finish. General smoothing of an existing textured wall is a separate substrate decision.
